Porcelain veneers are very small, wafer-thin “shells” made out of strong porcelain and shaped to fit perfectly over your existing teeth. They cover up the front surface of your tooth with a white, natural-looking replacement. Veneers are very versatile and can be used to treat a wide variety of cosmetic issues, from misshapen and slightly-damaged teeth to stains and slightly crooked teeth. This makes them an ideal choice for smile makeovers.
Veneer placement usually takes two appointments. At your first appointment, your teeth will be cleaned and numbed, and then your doctor will prepare your teeth by removing a very thin layer of enamel, equal in thickness to your veneers. Then, impressions and images of your mouth are taken, and you’ll be sent home with a set of temporary veneers to protect your teeth.
Using the impressions and images, an outside dental lab will craft your veneers. When they arrive at Clermont Family Dentistry, your dentist will ensure that they fit perfectly. Using a special dental cement, your dentist will bond each veneer in place permanently to complete the procedure.
If you feel self-conscious about your smile, but your oral health is in good overall condition, you are most likely a good candidate for veneers. Veneers are not recommended for patients who have multiple damaged teeth or are suffering from conditions like gum disease. The best way to determine whether you’re a good candidate for veneers is to schedule a consultation with one of our doctors. Call us today to get started!

To begin the process, you’ll need to schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation with Dr. Mundi Buechele at Clermont Family Dentistry. At this appointment, Dr. Buechele will determine if veneers are the right choice for you, and will also help you explore other options for cosmetic dentistry such as teeth whitening and dental bonding. Veneers are not always the right choice, so Dr. Buechele will discuss a variety of solutions that may be a better fit.
If veneers are right for you, Dr. Buechele will schedule your next appointment, where your teeth will be trimmed down to prepare for veneers. To begin this appointment, your mouth will be cleaned and numbed. Then, Dr. Buechele will use a dental drill to remove a thin layer of enamel. After this, he will take molds of your teeth, which will be sent to a dental lab where your permanent veneers will be made.
You will be sent home with a set of temporary veneers that will cover up your teeth and protect them while you wait for your permanent veneers. It will usually take 2-3 weeks for your final porcelain veneers to be made and sent to Clermont Family Dentistry.
Then, you will come in for your final appointment. Dr. Mundi Buechele will remove your temporary veneers, clean and prepare your teeth, and then check your porcelain veneers to ensure a perfect fit. If everything looks good, he will attach your veneers to your teeth using a special type of dental cement, which will hold them in place permanently.
Finally, Dr. Buechele will polish your smile and discuss the basics of veneer aftercare with you so that you’ll be able to properly care for your new teeth. Then, you’ll be sent home to enjoy your perfect smile.
There are two types of veneers. The first is temporary veneers, which are made of dental resin and are designed to be worn temporarily while you wait for your permanent veneers to be made. These veneers are durable, but are not meant for long-term wear. You’ll only wear them for a few weeks during the veneer treatment process.
The second type is permanent veneers. These are your custom-fitted veneers, which will be made from porcelain at our partner dental lab. Ceramic materials like porcelain are ideal for veneers. They can be matched perfectly to the color of your tooth, and the porcelain used for veneers is similar in translucence and texture to natural teeth, so it will look and feel just like a real tooth.
Porcelain veneers are also very similar in hardness to natural teeth. This is important, since it means that your veneers will not damage or wear down your natural enamel as you bite and chew over time.
Another reason porcelain is such a good choice for veneers is that it’s totally stain-resistant. It cannot be stained by drinking coffee or tea, or by any other lifestyle habits. The ceramic material is nonporous, unlike your natural enamel, so it will always stay bright and beautiful.
