Clermont Dental Crowns and Bridges

Clermont Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns & bridges are a great way to replace missing teeth, or to protect teeth that have been damaged by an impact injury or tooth decay. By covering and protecting the existing tooth structure, dental crowns can restore your tooth economically. If you are missing a tooth, a dental bridge can act as a replacement by using two dental crowns and a false tooth.

A dental bridge is an efficient, affordable alternative to a dental implant, and this replacement option gives the permanence that a partial denture can’t provide. If you have a damaged or missing tooth, Clermont Family Dentistry & Dentures can help!

What Is A Dental Crown?

A dental crown is also sometimes called a “cap”. This tooth-shaped prosthetic is permanently cemented to a tooth in order to restore its appearance and protect the underlying tooth structure from further damage. Our porcelain, tooth-colored crowns look natural, so nobody will need to know about your dental work!

Crowns are most commonly used to treat infected teeth that can’t be restored with a filling, or to protect a tooth that has been treated with a root canal. They can also be used for cosmetic dentistry purposes in to correct misshapen, stained, or otherwise unsightly teeth.

The process of placing a dental crown usually requires two visits. At your first visit, Dr. Buechele will clean your tooth and prepare it for the crown by removing a layer of enamel. Next, he will take photos and impressions of your tooth using an advanced TRIOS digital scanner. These images are sent to a third-party lab where your custom crown will be created.

At your last visit, your new crown will be checked to ensure a perfect fit and finish, and Dr. Buechele will cement it permanently into place. You’ll leave our office with a beautiful, natural-looking crown that fits in perfectly with the rest of your smile!

What Is A Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth. A dental bridge is made up of two crowns that are placed on the teeth surrounding a gap. A false tooth fits in between these two crowns to create a replacement tooth. Dental bridges are a convenient, affordable way to restore your smile if you lose a tooth.

The process of placing a dental bridge is much like the process of placing a standard dental crown. Dr. Buechele will trim down both of the abutment teeth, and then use the TRIOS digital scanner to take pictures of your mouth. Your custom bridge will be created at a lab using the digital images of your mouth.

At your next appointment, the bridge will be checked for fit and adjusted for comfort. Then, Dr. Buechele will bond it to the abutment teeth to instal it permanently and restore your smile.

Dental Bridge Post Treatment Expectations
After the successful completion of the bridge you may feel some discomfort, mild pain when biting or sensitivity to temperature changes for a few days. As advised by your dentist, you can take over-the-counter pain medicine, such as Advil that contains ibuprofen, to alleviate the discomfort. If these symptoms persist more than a few days, visit your dentist.

Cleaning Your Dental Bridge
The longevity of your dental bridge depends in large part on the quality of the material in the bridge, as well as your oral hygiene, diet and the health of the supporting teeth and gums. Please ask your dentist for proper brushing and flossing techniques.
